Item of the month: Blanket

Striped, colorful rana. The colors red, yellow, green, white, pink and black have been used in stripes with squares, dots and dashes.

Item of the month: Blanket woven with the chypre technique rose.

This beautiful, well-made quilt was owned by Ida Johanna Sundström from Racksund. She later moved to Galtisjaur and married Karlberg.

The quilt measures 205 x 140 cm and has repeated fields in black and pattern borders in yellow, green, red, white, purple and brown. It has been placed in the so-called "furniture room" for a long time - perhaps since its inauguration in 1965! And, as you can see, time, or rather the influence of light, has left its mark on this textile.

UV radiation, which contains more energy than visible light, is harmful to textile fibers of all kinds, because it breaks down the fibers and makes the textile fragile. Along with high humidity and high temperature, the ageing process is accelerated. Light energy can also cause a photochemical reaction in the color pigments, which causes the color to fade and also contributes to the weakening of the textile.

Now it's time for Ida's beautiful quilt to rest, in the Silvermuseet's dark and cool textile warehouse after a long service in the exhibition hall.
