The two-year project Rádestit is now presenting its proposal for a model for local management of small game and fish above the cultivation boundary in Arjeplog municipality. All concerned and interested parties are invited to a broad consultation where the project wishes to receive comments.

Representatives of the local Sami villages, hunters, fishermen and the tourism industry in Arjeplog have worked on the proposal for a local management model through the collaborative project Rádestit . Now there is increased knowledge, understanding and consensus on what is needed for sustainable management of small game and fish here in Arjeplog, says Ingela Edholm Forsberg, project manager.

The model presented is based on cooperation and consensus, and it is proposed that a non-profit cooperative association determines the basics of hunting and fishing management. A company would then manage the practical activities through a local management office. Petter Sjaggo, Luokta-Mávas Sami village, believes that the project's proposed management model can be good. - " It's important that we avoid the kind of infected conflicts that exist in some other areas, and I believe in this collaborative model where we focus on the local community.

The proposal enables continued hunting and fishing in Arjeplog's mountain world, while balancing this with local needs, for example in reindeer husbandry, the tourism industry and among local hunters and fishermen. Through an external collaboration council, the County Administrative Board and other stakeholders are also given the opportunity to participate and influence.

The project's steering group has agreed to present the proposal to a wider circle to get views and input, and hopes for constructive thoughts and feedback on the approach. Above all, the steering group wants to further anchor and obtain views on the model from the Sami villages, Sami, local people, the tourism industry and others who live and work in Arjeplog municipality . For many people here in Arjeplog, hunting and fishing really are an important part of their way of life, and this is how it must remain in the future. The model is interesting, but now it is important to hear how it is received and what views other hunters may have, says Dan Marklund from Arjeplog's hunting conservation group.

The project will organize meetings to present the proposal, which is also available on the Silvermuseet website. Comments and feedback on the proposal can be submitted until September 10.
