Ingela Bergman has received her medal

Against a dark multi-colored background, Ingela Bergman wears a white blouse with a medal in a light blue bow attached. Ingela has short hair and glasses.

Last year, Ingela Bergman learned that she was awarded the Gustaf Adolf Medal with the consent of H.M. the King, for her work in building and running the Institute for Arctic Landscape Research (INSARC), at the Silvermuseet. And now it was finally time to "bring home" the award. During the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences' annual ceremony on March 21, HRH Crown Princess Victoria presented the medals - to Ingela and others.

Ingela Bergman herself thinks that the important thing about the medal is that it confirms INSARC's position in society. "For me, it has been important to break the accepted rules that research should be linked to universities and cities. We have succeeded in doing so! We have shown that world-class research can be conducted even in the hinterland, by a small institution - and for me the medal is proof that we were right to build INSARC.

Ingela Bergman has already received a medal for her research efforts. In 2014, she was awarded HM the King's Medal 8th size in the Order of the Seraphim with the motivation "for outstanding achievements in subarctic landscape research". This is the first time the Silvermuseet/INSARC has received an award from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, whose main purpose is to support research in the humanities, social sciences and cultural heritage.

It is the National Heritage Board (RAÄ) that proposes the medal, which is then approved by HM the King.

Here you can watch the ceremony where Ingela Bergman is awarded the medal. (If you don't want to watch the whole ceremony, you can find the award 32:30 into the broadcast).
