A Christmas greeting from the museum director

Portrait of Malin Brännström in sepia tone. The picture is on an old board with cones and rowan berries around it.

As the year draws to a close, it's time to pause and reflect on the past year.

It is fair to say that 2021 has also been a very special year. The ongoing pandemic has affected us all, and so have the Silvermuseet's activities. For much of the winter and spring, the museum was closed to visitors. We invested in telling Arjeplog's common history through digital channels to reach out. It is a job that we had tried a little earlier, but now it suddenly became urgent to learn this craft. The museum staff did a fantastic job of making the museum as accessible as possible during this period. I hope you will go to our website and have a look at the exhibitions and lectures we have posted there.

During the summer, we were happy to be open to visitors again. Although the number of visitors did not reach the levels we had before the pandemic, it felt good to be able to receive both local, national and international guests. We are happy that the Silvermuseet attracts visitors to Arjeplog and we continue to develop our activities so that even more people want to come here to learn more about our common history. Right now we notice that many people are very interested in the history of the northern parts of the country. It's a history that isn't covered much in school books, and there really is a knowledge gap that needs to be filled. The Silvermuseet has an important role to play here.

During the fall, we finally got to start the public activities in earnest again. It has been fantastic to see everyone who has come here to the museum and looked at exhibitions, listened to lectures and watched various performances. The Silvermuseet is supposed to be a meeting place and a place for community. Culture evokes emotions and gives us knowledge. During the pandemic, I think we have all become more aware of how important culture is. And of course we will continue to contribute to Arjeplog being a good place to live.

I would like to thank all the people of Arjeplog who have been involved in the Silvermuseet's activities in various ways during the year, through visits or by submitting objects to the collections! I would also like to thank those of you who work at the Silvermuseet for your dedicated efforts. Without you all, no museum.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that next year we will also have the opportunity to invite you to visits and events.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
