Pitesamian building style
At Barkudden, there is a reconstruction of a stable block that guides visitors to the Skärrim archaeological site, which we have developed into a visitor destination. The aim of this project is to continue to guide visitors to other places where buildings similar to ours have existed or can even be seen in their proper context. The buildings - a timbered hut, a beaver lodge, an ájtte and a njalla - show and tell about the building practices in the area and the life that was lived here.
A first step is to carry out some additional research on the buildings (dating) and to restore them in accordance with the Pite Sami building tradition. The intention is also to produce information signs about the buildings, and to enable more frequent tours and opening hours.
In early June, some maintenance work will be carried out on the buildings, including raising the log cabin and sheds to prevent rot.
The project is being carried out with financial support from the County Administrative Board and Arjeplog Municipality.
