The doctor in Arjeplog

2022

In 2022, it was 100 years since Dr. Einar Wallquist came to Arjeplog, and in connection with this we organized a jubilee exhibition focusing on the people he met and how life was lived in Arjeplog in the 1920s.

Through a deep dive into our archives, we found hundreds of images that told the story of the time around the doctor's arrival here. We showed the community, the people, the midwives and an existence where the forces of nature dictated the conditions of life. Virtually all the villages and Sami villages in the municipality could be "met" through a wall of pictures, and albums provided further insight into 1920s Arjeplog.
